NBA News: Steve Kerr of Warriors says that more itinerant violations should be called

The Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr calls on NBA officials to travel, one of the most fundamental basketball violations, more often.

Kerr, 59, was assessed a technical fault during the third quarter of the Warriors 119-101 victory against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday after what he thought was an obvious trip was not called.

“I do not understand why we do not teach our officials to call travel in this league,” Kerr told journalists after the match. “They do a great job and work their tails and communicate well, but I see five or six game trips that are not called.

“You know that it is a problem when there are like a hundred fans in the stands and each coach on the sidelines when I watch a film and everyone is (signaling a travel call). Everyone sees it, so we clearly not teach as a league that our officials look at their feet.”

Kerr called his own team, saying that he had seen the Warriors commit four traveling violations that were not called on Saturday in their defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kerr said that a change in travel violations must occur “for the good of the game”.

“The whole game is based on the leg game,” said Kerr. “We need to apply travel violations, and we don’t do it. And I don’t understand why. … These (officials) are great. They are doing a great job, and they have a million things to watch, but the leg game is the total base of the game, and we have to call travel. It will be a much better game if we clean it.”

The Warriors confront New York Knicks on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., and Kerr will probably monitor itinerant calls.
