A police report submitted to the court revealed that a total of 32 FIR were recorded against the former Punjab chief minister, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, through the province.

The report was presented in response to a petition tabled by Elahi, seeking details on old and new affairs against him. According to Punjab police, 15 cases were recorded in Lahore, including those related to the May 9 riots, 4 in Faisalabad, 1 in Attock, 1 in Gujranwala and 11 in Rawalpindi.

During the hearing, Judge Nadeem noticed that the case should be closed. However, Elahi’s lawyer opposed, arguing that the police report was inaccurate and unlike the facts.

By asking time to present other arguments, the council argued that it had solid reservations on the details provided. Accepting the request, the court postponed the hearing until March 10 for other arguments. In his petition, Elahi said that affairs against him were politically motivated, aimed at harassing him and humiliating him despite his alleged lack of involvement.

He also declared that his repeated requests for information on current cases and the surveys had remained unanswered.

Elahi urged the court to order the competent authorities to provide him with the full details of the FIR and surveys to prevent any unexpected arrest. The case will be resumed at the next hearing.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended the provisional surety of the leader of the PTI Musarrat Jamshed and her husband Jamshed Iqbal Cheema until March 22 in several cases related to the riots of May 9. ATC judge Manzer, Ali Gill, chaired the hearing on the couple’s deposits who appeared before the court at the expiration of their provisional surety. Police informed the court that business surveys had been completed and that the couple’s arrest was necessary.
