NFL News: Sam Hubbard of Bengals retires at 29

Sam Hubbard, the longtime defender of the Bengals of Cincinnati, announced his NFL retirement on Wednesday. He was only 29 years old and will not be 30 years before June.

Hubbard announced his retirement in a statement published on his social networks.

“What is the next step? Although this is the end of my playing career, I consider it a new start,” he said. “A new chapter to explore other commercial opportunities, continue the mission of SAM Hubbard Foundation, focus on my health and family and also take up a new challenge.

“I want to send a sincere thank you to my teammates, coaches, trainers, support staff, ownership of Bengals and the NFL for everything you have all done for me. I could not have done all this.

Hubbard was pure Ohio from start to finish.

He was born in Cincinnati, played football in high school for Archbishop Moeller and frequented the Ohio State. The Bengals selected Hubbard in the third round of the NFL 2018 NFL draft and he helped anchor a defense that broke the drought of the appearance of the franchise Super Bowl.

Hubbard will end his career with 38.5 bags and 398 placed in total in 104 career games.

Last season, Hubbard had two bags and 41 plated. Cincinnati finished 9-8 and just missed the playoffs.
