- Cloudflare would have blocked certain browsers of access to certain sites
- Pale Moon, Falkon, Seamonkey and even Firefox are affected, say users
- We do not know if a more permanent solution arrives
Cloudflare has admitted that its browser detection system blocks some users access to websites if they use less known web browsers.
The affected browsers include the pale moon, the Falkon and the sewing key, as well as certain more popular versions of offers such as Firefox 115 ESR.
The problem is caused by the Cloudflare security system, which blocks browsers that it does not recognize from certain sites (including, embarrassing its own community site) – potentially confuses users concerned for confidentiality for bots.
Cloudflare continues to accidentally block less common browsers
Users encountering the problem have no direct way of reporting it, except via Cloudflare forums, but it seems that they are not actively monitored. In addition, this is hardly a new problem, with similar reports dating from 2015.
Some affected browsers have tried to bypass the Cloudflare system continues to reintroduce the problem where users encounter different problems.
For example, the publication notes of Pale Moon V33.6.0.1 Read: “This is an additional update to mitigate as many cloudflare problems leading to browser problems and possible memory on the web browser side.” However, efforts to often bypass Cloudflare safety measures
A user on the Hacker News wire explained what Cloudflare is doing like “kicking anyone who wearing dark sunglasses in a physical store” – although burglars can want to obscure their faces, there are infinite reasons to want to wear sunglasses, and there are endless reasons for which Internet users could want to protect their anonym.
It is not only Cloudflare customers that are limited to certain areas of the web. Another speaker wrote “The sellers who block the iCloud relay are the worst … Blocking IP addresses is a place.”
Techradar Pro asked Cloudflare to comment on the question and share their plans on the fixes, but we did not receive an immediate response.
