Several months after being announced for the first time in CES 2025, AMD has now officially confirmed the price and release date of its Ryzen 99900x3d and 9950x3d processors. They are presented as the “best processor in the world for games and content creation”.
The Ryzen 9,9900x3d and 9950x3d processors will be available from March 12, 2025. The first carries a PDSF of $ 599, the last available for $ 699, being the two most expensive (and high performance) chips of the company.
On the technical side of things, the Ryzen 9 9950x3d is confirmed as comprising 16 cores (32 threads) with a basic clock speed of 4.3 GHz and a boost clock up to 5.7 GHz. There are 144 MB of second generation V 3D cache stacked on board with a 170W TDP.
On the other hand, the secondary processor, the AMD Ryzen 9 9900x3d, has 12 cores (24 threads) with a basic clock speed of 4.4 GHz and a 5.5 GHz boost clock and 128 MB of V 3D cache V 3D. Unlike the flagship model, this processor includes the lower 120W TDP of the Ryzen 9 9900X (and cheaper Ryzen 7 9800X3D), which made its debut in August and November 2024.
As with all Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 processors, 9900x3d and 9950x3d are built on the AM5 platform, which means that you will need a compatible motherboard. Likewise, these chips are built exclusively for DDR5 RAM and have a PCIe 5.0 compatibility out of the box. If you are thinking of upgrading from an older AM4 platform, you will have to do more than simply exchange the fleas.
Whatever the choice of the two new processors you choose, you will want to invest in one of the best processor coolers in 2025 to reduce these basic temperatures, whether you play, the or more realization projects. This is particularly true for the Ryzen 9950x3d with its 170W TDP, corresponding to that of non-3D variants, something that we had not seen until that time.
With higher thermal design power, heat has increased with performance. We recommend a dedicated AIO with a large attached radiator (such as 240 mm or 360 mm) with a PC case with an air flow and sufficient fans inside the computer housing.
Main processor options, provided you have the money to spend
Although the AMD Ryzen 9900x3d and 9950x3D processors are expensive, the company has made the intelligent decision to maintain consistent prices with the previous generation versions (7900x3d and 7950x3d) of 2023. If generational performance gains are solid enough to consider swinging advantages should only approach.
How does the V-Cache V-Cache V-Cache Cache of AMD work, it is having a dedicated L3 memory pool stacked on the chip which acts as a short-term (but incredibly fast) resource for the processor access to immediate data, for higher play fractures and lower rendering times than what is observed from processors without excess cache / V-Cache L3. Having frequently accessed the data so close to CPU nuclei, there is less delay between the higher processes and performance accordingly.
That said, AMD chipsets with higher TDP can (generally) surpass lower 3D TDP options in terms of productivity and synthetic performance. However, players and content creators will notice the advantage in performance thanks to the V 3D cache. It is a curious (but welcome) decision to see the Ryzen 9 9900x3d and 9950x3d with TDP identical to their non -3D counterparts. We could therefore see improved performance in all areas.
