The Federal Anti-Corruption Court acquitted the President of Senate Raza Gilani in three cases related to the Pakistan corruption scandal (TDAP).
During the hearing, Gilani appeared before the court in person. The judge informed him that a verdict had been rendered in three cases against him, to which he recognized the decision, said Express News on Friday.
The court asked Gilani what prison he preferred – Karachi, Multan or Islamabad. Gilani replied that he was not afraid of the prison. “The prison is nothing new for us. If you wish, you can even condemn me to death,” said Gilani. The court also noted that those who testified against Gilani now made legal accusations themselves.
With Gilani, 40 other people were acquitted in the case of TDAP corruption. Despite this acquittal, Gilani still faces 23 other cases linked to the TDRA corruption scandal.
Gilani, as well as the senior TDA and others officials, had been accused of approval and disbursement of these subsidies.
The case included allegations of embezzlement of commercial subsidies, where billions of rupees have been distributed to fraudulent companies through falsified complaints and rear checks during the PPP government.
