The authorities of the federal capital temporarily closed key points and exit in the red zone due to security problems, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The locations concerned include the access routes of Chowk and Serena of the hotel, which will remain closed until further notice, said the Islamabad traffic police in a statement, Express News reported.
Commissioners were advised to use alternative routes, including the Nadra, Marriott and Margalla roads. Vehicles heading to the Red Road Road area can use the seventh avenue.
Police urged motorists to stay up to date thanks to the Islamabad traffic police assistance line at 1915 or via their official social media platforms.
In addition, the security forces thwarted a second terrorist attack on a Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border control point in a week, police officials announced on Saturday.
About 15 to 20 heavily armed terrorists launched an assault before dawn at the Lakhani control point, using rocket launchers and other heavy weapons, according to a Punjab police spokesman, Express News reported.
The attackers approached the position in small groups from several directions but were detected by thermal imaging cameras.
The alert staff responded immediately with machine guns and mortar fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw.
“There are reports of important militant victims, although the exact figures are not confirmed,” added the police spokesman.
Six days earlier, a similar attack on the same checkpoint was postponed.
The operation was managed by the regional police officer Dera Ghazi Khan Captain (RETD) Sajjad Hassan Khan, with district police rescue quickly strengthening the position.
Inspector General of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, congratulated the forces for their rapid action to prevent the attack. So far, the police have rejected 19 similar assaults on border control points.
