Cole said that his arm felt good during the start but worsened.
“While I was going home, he continued to become more and more painful,” said Cole, via the NY Post on Saturday. “Something was not good.”
Cole also was afraid of injuries last season in training in the spring and was closed due to what was diagnosed later as nervous irritation in his elbow.
The six times All-Star made its first departure before June 19 of last season, due to an injury. Last season, in his campaign bounded with injuries, Cole had an 8-5 file with an MPM of 3.41 in 17 regular season departures.

In the World Series Yankees race, Cole was sensational in the playoffs. The AS of the Yankees was 1-0 and experienced an MPM of 2.17 in five departures in the playoffs.
Cole said he had changed his intersane routine to help reduce the risk of another injury.
“We proposed a plan to mitigate the risks, and I executed it,” said Cole.
“I felt the best I had for some time in mind (at the last departure).”
Cole said he had an “initial idea” of what the injury is but is “worried”, calling the pain he felt “alarming” and that it was difficult to sleep.

The winner of 2023 Al Cy Young is not the only Yankees launcher to be sidelined by an injury, because Luis Gil underwent a high quality lat strain.
Gil is expected to be closed for six weeks as he recovers from his injury.
Without Cole and Gil, the starting rotation of the Yankees is now made up of Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Marcus Stroman, with Prospect Will Warren among those who argue for fifth place in rotation.
