The older brother of former senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan was shot in the village of Ahad Khan of Swabi, police announced on Sunday.
Shakeel Ahmed Khan was fatally struck when he tried to intervene in a dispute in his neighbor.
The suspect had just killed and killing his own father. While Shakeel Ahmed Khan rushed to help the victim, he was also targeted and fatally slaughtered, police said.
The Swabi district police officer (DPO) Muhammad Azhar said Kamran was addict and mentally unstable. The law enforcement officials launched an investigation and assured that the suspect will soon be arrested.
The senior political leaders, including the chief of Jamaat-E-Islami (JI), Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, firmly condemned the murder of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan in Swabi.
Rehman expressed his solidarity with the bereaved family, describing the attack on an “brutal act of violence”. He urged the government to ensure rapid legal action against the authors.
The chief minister of KP, Gandapur, also denounced the murder and made his condolences to the former senator. He assured that the suspect would risk strict sentence under the law and prayed for the deceased and his family.
The authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
