- OnePlus will no longer equip his phones with the emblematic alert cursor switch
- Future OnePlus Phones will present a customizable iPhone style button
- The button will offer the same features as the alert cursor and the new features
OnePlus will replace the emblematic alert cursor found on most of his first phones with an Apple style button, according to a new declaration by the CEO of the company.
In an article in the OnePlus community forum, the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, confirmed that the alert cursor would be replaced due to the limited features offered by the three -position cursor.
This means that the successors of the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13r will probably lack one of the most emblematic features of the brand.
Lau gave few details on the successor to the alert cursor, but only that he would offer more features than the current three -position switch, and that the switching between sound profiles without unlocking the phone would still be possible.
In fact, the position implies that Lau has personally insisted that the new button should be able to offer the same features as the outgoing alert cursor, as well as new and enlarged functions that are not yet revealed.
Overall, this new OnePlus button seems theoretically identical to the Apple action button, first seen with the release of the iPhone 15 Pro – so that we can look at the iPhone to make educated assumptions on the potential capabilities of the new button.
The action button found on the iPhone can be attributed to a long list of functions, including activation and extinguishing the flashlight, the camera opening, the activation of a shortcut or the tilting does not bother.
OnePlus is inspired quite liberal from Apple with regard to software – there is a dynamic island simulated on the latest OnePlus 13 interface, for example – so I would not be surprised to see something similar in the future combined of the company.
The Post of Lau mentions that the counterpoux of the OnePlus 10T, which was launched in 2022 without alert Slider, an internal debate inspired on the future of the emblematic material functionality, and that the abolition of the cursor will allow better use of the internal space of the devices. OnePlus has not yet announced the first product that will include the new button.
The end of an era
OnePlus is the last major phone manufacturer remaining to adapt to its handsets with a physical ringer switch – however, as this news implies, not much longer.
I have always found that the Ringer switch affixed to OnePlus phones was a useful addition – other functions are quite easy to find in the user interface or on the locking screen, and it is pleasant to be able to transform my phone into silent mode without even looking at the display when I take a break.
Perhaps even more important is the character that the alert cursor brings to the OnePlus phones – this is a unique feature that highlighted the best OnePlus phones in an area of increasingly homogeneous phones, lending as much personality as utility.
When I was driving the ONPLUS Open daily, I used the cursor every day and I still use it every time I test an OnePlus or Oppo phone (Oppo and OnePlus are companies linked under the same umbrella parent). Tactility is a rare thing and underestimated in the design of the modern phone, so I will be really sad to see the alert cursor go.
What do you think of this decision? OnePlus should he have to keep the alert cursor as is? Let us know in the comments.
