- Some HP laser printers are blocked as a result of a firmware update
- The assigned models include MFP M232-M237 laserjet
- HP says he is aware of a “limited” problem
Already in difficulty in blocking or reducing the performance of third -party ink cartridges, HP has now been accused of having blocked the legitimate HP brand toner in certain laser printers models.
Firmware version 20250209, published on March 4, now seems to cause problems for owners of the MFP MFP M232-M237 models.
According to Ars TechnicaThe update only aimed to resolve “security updates”, “update of regulatory requirements”, “general and corrective improvements of bugs”.
HP blocks his own ink?
Users of the HP assistance forum have indicated that the error code 11 and the flashing toner lights after the update prevented them from being able to print.
One of them wrote: “I installed this toner cartridge about a month ago, without problem. But today, an error code 11 appeared, which means that the printer no longer accepts / no longer recognizes the cartridge. »»
In addition, basic troubleshooting measures such as control of contacts and toner reinstalling do not seem to solve the problem.
Although the company has already been linked to questionable firmware updates which have an impact on the quality and performance of printing with certain inks, it seems that this is not a case of expected consequences. The company shared with Techradar Pro::
“We are aware of a firmware problem affecting a limited number of HP Laserjet 200 Series and our team is actively working on a solution. For help, customers concerned can contact our assistance team at: https://support.hp.com. »»
Aside from HP, it is a week busy for printers, with Brother recently accused of having strangled certain devices with firmware updates in a similar way to HP – which the company really denied having done. Brother has partially blamed the performance reduced to the quality of third ink, but said that the firmware limitation claims were “false”.
Techradar Pro asked HP an update on the situation, but we did not receive an answer.
