- A new laptop concept on Kickstarter can prove to be an excellent design in the future
- Its design is focused on the adjustment of desktop GPUs and processors in a laptop -form factor, with water cooling components
- It would be the first of its kind, making portable office game PCs
PC Gaming Tech is improving constantly – especially at the moment with the new RDNA 4 Blackwell RTX 5000 cards from NVIDIA and the RDNA 4 cards from AMD – and it is a constant arms race for laptops of play to catch up with office game PCs. Now, it seems that this gap is even smaller, thanks to a concept for a laptop design that could do wonders for portable games.
As indicated by Videocardz, a laptop concept on Kickstarter known as UHPILCL (Ultra High Performance Integration Integration Liquid Corrier Laptop – Catchy, I Know) offers integrated liquid cooling while taking charge of the RTX 5090 and Ryzen 7950x3D office. This design supports ITX motherboards, with the Kickstarter page highlighting the support of mini-itx cards such as generation Z890i.
All this is made possible thanks to a pump cooled by water 18 W, cooling both the CPU and the GPU while giving room for different personalized heat dissipators depending on the material chosen – The page claims that the upilcl is capable of dissipating thermal up to 720W. If the kickstarter succeeds, it will be launched with two models – the T1000 (this is not a terminator, I promise it) and the T1000 Super, with the latter offering greater heat dissipation (up to 735W) with its thicker construction to shelter an RTX 5090.
It is an absurd concept – and rather ugly, if I am honest – but fascinating a concept which essentially means that the players could have a hybrid functional office game video (obvious in the UHPILCL Youtube video below) – although we can say the same thing for portable game PCs, they certainly do not do as much power as this laptop. It is even before mentioning that the concept model has a WLED 3K 120Hz screen, a 4K camera and a Wi-Fi 7 support, so it is certainly not to be outdone.
To watch
I really want it to become common …
As ridiculous as it may seem, it is a concept that could actually end up working well. While several factors come into play, such as longevity, battery life and noise levels (claims to be a maximum of 55 dB), it is a design which, I think, could be removed if it is supported correctly. The creators of the Uhpilcl also claim that almost all the components of the GPU to the RAM will be modern by the user, which would be a huge Advantage compared to traditional laptops – although the Kickstarter page does not appear in detail, so it could be a bit of a pipe dream at this stage.
As I am categorical about the test of my ally Asus ROG with an office EGPU, it is another portable alternative that might be enough – keep in mind, I have never been a fan of water cooling (sorry, I don’t want a lot of money near my components) so for me personally, it would be a frightening thought to spend a lot of money on such a product. However, this could hypothetically save money from consumers when it comes to buying the required equipment for a complete configuration – no need to buy a separate instructor and keyboard here, for example.
Again, it’s just a concept, so there are few points to jump to the conclusions now – it should be noted that it did not start the crowdfunding phase on Kickstarter at the time of the editorial staff. But if it becomes a project on a larger scale and succeeds, it could completely reorganize the market for laptops of play – although a ridiculously high cost, I suppose.
