- WBD has migrated Discovery + to the same platform as the max application
- From March 12, subscribers will see five major new features
- The update will make the deployment of future changes faster and simpler
Discovery + subscribers get a major update of their streaming applications, according to an announcement by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).
The changes will be deployed today (March 12) to all subscribers in the United States and Canada which update their applications, and includes five major new features that could be familiar to any person registered in the WBD, Max streaming service.
Indeed, the change will see that the Discovery + application will migrate to the same internal technological platform that WBD uses for the HBO streaming service, which, according to WBD, AVI Saxena will allow “a richer set of features”.
Unify the technological battery for all its streaming services means that WBD will be able to deploy all Backend changes, including bug corrections and application design updates, more efficiently.
What new features are available on Discovery +?
The update means that WBD can bring a large part of the same features as Max subscribers already enjoy those enrolled in Discovery +. These include:
- An improved home page that looks more maximum
- More personalized content recommendations
- A new research arrangement to jump between episodes
- Ability to connect to the application via a QR code
- New sharing feature for social media
Among these new features, improved navigation tools seem to be the most useful for subscribers who seek to find content in the application. Indeed, the new research layout (as illustrated in the main image of this article) seems to make the jump between the episodes of a much simpler show.
I can see this change being the most useful for large series of reality which have an apparently infinite number of seasons and episodes, which facilitates the search for a specific segment of the series. WBD also says that these new discovery improvements will allow more personalized content recommendations.
There are also new sharing features that allow Discovery + subscribers to send content to their friends and family more easily. WBD specifies in its advertisement on the update that this new feature is for “profile users for adults”, which could mean that this feature is deactivated for children. We contacted WBD for clarification and update this article when we hear.
Discovery + subscribers can also expect the new home page, which will look more like Max, have more personalized recommendations that use automatic learning to better serve the movies and programs you love.
Apart from new features, WBD also indicates that the update means that the Discovery + application will benefit from faster performance, which allows better video resolution and better reading.
Discovery + is the latest streaming service to deploy a overhaul of its application in 2025, with YouTube TV teasing a large Netflix update earlier this month, Prime Video launching a new application for Apple TV devices in February, and Max makes a big change in its navigation menu in January.
