Rafe Judkins defended the decision to continue to make changes based on history and character in The wheel of time‘s (Two) TV adaptation.
Addressing Techradar before The wheel of time The beginnings of season 3 on March 13, Judkins said that they were a necessary evil to help his audience “emotionally understand” the characters who live in his world.
Since The wheel of timeThe first season was published in April 2021, longtime fans of the Robert Jordan fantastic book series have expressed their frustration in the face of what they consider as superfluous changes. “In this season, for example, we do a lot with the relationships that Rand A with Lanfear and Egwene,” continued Judkins “and none of them is really present in books. Many of what we have to do is condensation [stuff down from the novels]But sometimes we have to develop [on what’s on the page].
“Rand has really deep and complicated relationships with these women, but they don’t have many scenes together in this book [The Shadow Rising]So it was as if we really needed it to understand the depth of these relationships and their importance for these characters.
“It’s a [example of] Where we really add something that was not in books. I am sure that it will make people crazy, but there is a reason why we do it, and it is because we want viewers emotionally understanding the relationship between these characters and how everyone affects the other. It has a huge impact on history as it advances. “”
