- Chromecast HD and 4K get Android 14
- The update is mainly safety fixes and bug corrections
- It’s probably time to buy the Google TV streamer
Until now, this is not a great week for users of Chromecast and Chromecast: the 2015 versions of the two devices suffer from what seems to be a server problem that did not allow users to launch their audio and video. It is therefore nice to report good news. Google now deploys the Android 14 update for Chromecast with Google TV.
As the Android police report, Google interrupted the Chromecast range in 2024 in favor of the new Google TV streamer. But Google has promised that if older devices cannot correspond to the new streamer in terms of material capacity (the streamer is also a center of threads for smart homes), he always aimed to bring them the Android 14 update.
What is Android 14 update brings to Chromecasts?
Do not expect a massively different experience when you install the update: almost all the changes are under the hood. The main reason for wanting this upgrade is to connect all the safety holes that could leave your device vulnerable to bad guys.
Updates vary according to your device – the download is between 743 and 809 MB – and it increases the operating system from Android 12 to Android 14. The update includes the safety fix for January 2025 and the usual modifications for “system stability and improvements”. It also adds the management of the Google TV Streame Remote Control Control’s My Remote Feature and Button Customation.
It could be the last update of the 4K version, which should stop obtaining security updates from September 2025; The HD Chromecast will receive another two years of updates until its end of life in 2027.
