NYMVPN, the “most secure VPN in the world” was launched at the Frontline Club in London on March 13.
Alongside the famous activist and denunciator Chelsea Manning, the NYMVPN team presented the official version of NYMVPN for the first time.
The supplier based in Switzerland enters a market crowded with the best VPNs with a clear objective: revolutionizing what he believes to be an erroneous industry, the CEO of NYM, Harry Halpin, affirming that “digital confidentiality is broken”.
End -to -end encryption is not enough “
NYMVPN aims to solve an often neglected digital privacy area – the protection of metadata.
Existing virtual private networks (VPN) and other confidentiality tools mainly use end -to -end encryption to keep you deprived online. This technique essentially blurs the content of your communication to prevent third -party access.
However, Halpin explained, even the encrypted messages leave traces, such as you speak and when. With advanced technology like AI, metadata monitoring becomes easier and easier to do.
“And it’s quite dangerous,” said Halpin. “Like the [Edward] Snowden leaks have revealed, if you have enough metadata, you will not really need content. “”
A new approach: the mixnet
The need for metadata confidentiality has been clear for some of the industry – certainly for those who trained the NYM team behind the first iteration of the mixt – for some time.
Indeed, the professor of Ryptography and now the chief scientist of the NYM, Claudia Diaz, made a doctorate on the mixed networks, a theory proposed by the cryptographer David Chaum in the 80s, between 2000 and 2005.
In 2016, Chelsea Manning began working on a way to make the navigator Tor and similar tools preserving more secure confidentiality, while in prison for fled the documents classified by the US government in Wikileaks. She said: “We admitted that the quantity of calculation that would become accessible during the next decade would facilitate traffic analysis to be able to decipher anonymity through the network.”
In December 2017, Manning meeting Halpin because he also began to consider such a system to better protect metadata. Quick advance until 2025, NYMVPN is the first VPN iteration with a noise generator mixt system that claims to protect these small digital – but important – traces – that we all leave behind.

Like Ania Piotrowska, research manager at NYM, explained in more detail when launching the product, the NYMVPN Mixnet includes three fundamental components:
- A multi-server routing system. This ensures that your connection is reinstalled via five independent hops, so no single entity should be able to link your IP address to your activity.
- Cover traffic. The network generates traffic at random to make monitoring of metadata more difficult. He essentially seeks to hide your communication models in a noisy crowd of false internet traffic.
- Mixture of data packets. On the way, data packets are mixed to ensure that the time is hooked while confusing the order, the data packets move between you and the receiver.
Without forgetting the old VPN features
While NYMVPN is trying to stand out from competitors with its noise generating mixt technology, a network of decentralized servers and an anonymous payment system based on tokens, the supplier has not forgotten the features that VPN users expect in a secure VPN application.
The fully open-open NYMVPN applications are available for all the main platforms (Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows and Linux). They include a killing switch and leaks prevention features to ensure that if the VPN connection drops, your data remains protected. At the time of writing the editorial time, you can choose between more than 500 servers operators in more than 50 countries.

All applications are built on Rust, a relatively new coding language that would be better for safety and performance – ExpressVPN recently rewritten its Lightway protocol internally in Rust.
COO NYMVPN Alexis Roussel confirmed that the team is also working on a split tunneling option. This will not only allow you to personalize the applications and websites redirect via the VPN tunnel, but also which protects which ones protect with its AMNEZIAWG mode with two hops based on Wireguard (so-called fast mode) and those via the most private mixt mode (but slower).
The new default value for data confidentiality?
NYMVPN can enter a crowded VPN market, but it promises to make waves to repair what the team believes to be a defective digital privacy industry.
The ultimate objective, however, is even more ambitious – NYMVPN wants to become the new lack of confidentiality of data.
“NYM begins with a single VPN application that allows people all over the world to access and benefit from the privacy properties of our network,” said Ania Piotrowska, research manager at NYM. “But the network opens the door to more integrations which can provide default confidentiality solutions in various industries, health care for legal services and telecommunications.” We believe that confidentiality is a basic right and we want to provide a solution that will be accessible by all in all types of online situations. “”
