If I could have a camera, money without object, the Hasselblad X2D 100c would probably be that. However, I could soon add a “II” to this nickname, following the leaks of the next successor of my dream camera.
The people of Photo Rumors shared a article containing a recording Hasselblad FCC for the HB722 ‘product, dated December 4, 2024, followed by a photo that apparently shows a top plate of an X2D II camera, leading us to believe that the upcoming product could be an X2D successor, and that it will arrive soon.
The current model is a medium -sized 100 MP camera with an amazing minimalist design and a stripped user experience. I loved reviewing the camera when it was launched in 2022, but an upgrade could make significant improvements
Yes, the X2D 100c floats my boat, but that does not make it the perfect camera.
The following model, apparently called X2D II, suggests an iterative update – I expected that a major upgrade be called X3D instead. However, it is pure speculation, and there are not yet disclosed specifications.
I would be everything for a new Hasselblad camera, whether a modest or substantial upgrade. Here are the 5 best upgrades that I hope.

I have no complaints with the image quality of the X2D 100C – Its fixed images of 100 MP are filled with details and Divine natural color. A high resolution sensor next time would make the headlines, but I don’t think it’s necessary or likely.
I would not change much design either; The handle provides a firm socket, whether in vertical or horizontal format, there is a beautiful balance with most objectives, while the minimalist arrangement and control menus give you quick access to the parameters you use the most, deleting the rest.
If the quality of the image and the form factor are good as they are, what would I change? My desired improvements are largely focused on concentration and speed.
First and foremost, I would like a mode of specific subject detection detection, especially people in autofocus with eye detection. The X2D 100C offers the best Hasselblad autofocus system, but there are still years behind the best mirror cameras of Sony, Canon, Nikon and more.
Automatic accuracy is essential, in particular given the huge 100 MP files which highlight more highlights the poor user’s technique / camera limitations. Being armed with reliable AF eyes detection would make photoshoots much more relaxed.
In addition to the precise autofocus, I would also like the autofocus to be considerably faster and reliable. Not that I plan to use the X2D 100C for sports and wildlife photography, but a faster concentration for portraits would be appreciated.
Although we are in the event of a speed, the continuous burst shooting of the X2D 100C is limited to only 3.3 images per second. Understandable given the huge file sizes, but the Fujifilm GFX100 II rival will more than double this speed. Again, I do not run with a medium format camera, but I would like the option there for faster image frequencies, especially for portrait sessions.
A faster burst could also power a high resolution mode usable – the type you get with smaller format cameras to quadruple the resolution. Imagine a 400 MP file of a Hasselblad!
Landscape photography is an obvious force of a 100MP medium format camera, for which a better lifespan and better battery life could be very useful in the future X2D II – I was not too impressed by the X2D 100C on these two fronts.
Video recording is completely absent in the X2D 100C. Again, I would not naturally think of using such a camera for video work, but when I think of the superb science of Hasselblad colors for fixed images, the prospect of an 8K video with such a beautiful color is exciting.
To summarize: a faster processor, a precise and faster automatic focus, refined handling and video recording. These requests equivalent to a modest and fully feasible upgrade. More objectives are always welcome.
