We believe that the Sony UBP-X700 is the best cheap 4K 4K Blu-ray player. And now there is a new version – the first new new Blu -ray Sony player since 2019 – with some changes that have a total meaning for me, and potentially some that do not.
Based on its product lists (via flatpanelshd.com), the new UBP -X700K drops some of the functionalities of the current model – but the price, at least in Japan, is 25% higher than the price of the street of the current current.
More money, less features? It seems strange, so we made a request from Sony to ask for details of price and availability. We will inform you if we obtain a confirmation.
Sony UBP-X700K: which is different from UBP-X700
Depending on the Japanese publication Monohika, the new player is indeed a reduced eversion of the UBP-X700 and there are some key differences.
The big difference is that there are no wireless networking features, and this in turn does not mean video streaming applications, no spotify connection and no screen mirror. The video & TV Sideview application has also disappeared, reports Monohika.
The removal of streaming features to make a more rationalized Budget Blu -ray player sounds like an intelligent decision for me in the era of intelligent televisions – it is simply not something that too many buyers will want their record player today. But you would expect it to have a lower price made to attract people to the world of physical media and the advantages of Blu-ray 4K compared to streaming.
The player is a typically black Sony block, and at the rear, there is an Ethernet port, two HDMI (only audio) and a coaxial digital ports. There is an HDR10 and Dolby Vision management (no HDR10 +, as with the ordinary model), Dolby Atmos and DTS: X Audio, and it works with UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-ray and standard DVD.
The new Blu-ray player will be available from April or May 2025, hopefully at an attractive price. The current model can be found for less than $ 199 $ / 199 £ 369 in.
