Two police stations and a police station in the Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were attacked in a coordinated assault late Friday evening, officials said.

Unidentified motorcycle activists have launched two hand grenades at the Khojri police station, Express News reported.

No victim has been reported, while the identity and reasons of the attackers remain vague. Police launched a research operation and actively investigate the incident.

In response, local residents armed to help the police and announced that the alumni in the region would play an active role in protecting the position.

Simultaneously, the activists also targeted the police stations in Bakakhel and Ghoriwala, arousing exchanges of gunshots between the attackers and the security forces.

Simultaneous attacks in three different places have spread panic throughout the district.

The security forces launched a research operation to find the attackers, and the law enforcement organizations increased security to prevent other attacks.

Local residents have expressed their commitment to cooperate with police to fight terrorist threats and ensure peace in the region.

Last week, the security forces managed to thwart a great terrorist attack on Bannu’s cantonment to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least six terrorists, according to security sources.

The attempted aggression involved suicide bomber from the militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which led two vehicles loaded with explosives in the perimeter of the cantonment, triggering massive explosions.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of the Police (IGP) of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, confirmed that the suicide bombers involved in recent attacks against Darul Uloom Haqqania in Nowshera and Bannu have been identified.

Addressing the media, IGP Hameed said that surveys on the two incidents are underway and that video surveillance images of the two sites have been obtained for analysis. He added that the bombers had been identified by forensic analysis of their remains.

In addition to identifying the attackers, Hameed revealed that the authorities had retraced the vehicles used in Bannu’s attack.

He also revealed that weapons made abroad had been used in the incident, adding that surveys are underway to determine the origin of these weapons and how they entered Pakistan. “We are investigating the origin of weapons and how they entered the country,” said Hameed.

The attacks, who left 12 married people to Bannu, prompted the government to grant compensation to the families of the victims. Each family of martyrs has received a check of one million rupees as a financial aid.

In his speech, the IGP also underlined the security measures taken to restore peace in Kurram, a region that has increased in terrorist activity.

He confirmed the arrest of more than 100 suspects involved in the disruption of peace. “Terrorist elements have started to emerge in Kurram’s incidents, and a separate strategy was designed to approach the situation,” said Hameed, expressing the hope that peace in the region would soon be restored.

In addition, the Safe City project has been approved and is expected to be completed in the coming months to improve security in the region.
