It has been clear for some time that Gemini has been the future of AI assistants with regard to Google, and now it is official: Google Assistant will disappear from smartphones before the end of the year.
In a blog article (via 9TO5GOOGLE), Brian Marquardt from Google explains: “In the coming months, we are improving more users on mobile devices of Google Assistant To Gemini; and later this year, the classic Google assistant will no longer be accessible to most mobile devices or available for new downloads in mobile application stores.
If you have a phone that does not meet the minimum requirements for Gemini, the Google Assistant functionality “will not change at the moment” – but as these requirements are at least 2 GB of RAM and Android 10 or more, most users will get the upgrade.
Thanks to its generative foundations of AI, Gemini is much better to discuss and search for information that Google Assistant, and it slowly incorporates all other tasks that Google Assistant can perform on mobile devices. The tilting is now almost finished.
Smart speakers and other devices
For the moment, Google Assistant will continue to operate on devices such as intelligent speakers, smart screens and televisions, says Google – but it will only be a matter of time before all these materials also obtain the treatment of Gemini.
Regarding devices that connect directly to phones – such as car dashboards, tablets, headphones and smart watches – the involvement is that a Google Gemini upgrade is more imminent than for nesting hubs and minis nest. “We can’t wait to share more details with you in the coming months,” writes Marquardt.
The blog post addresses the rapid expansion of Gemini and its capacities: the Bot AI is now available in more than 40 languages in more than 200 countries, and Google says it was designed to continue the same mission as Google Assistant.
There is no doubt that more gemini upgrades are on the way in the coming months. “We have updated the application to support the most requested features more, such as reading music, definition of timer or the action of your lock screen,” writes Marquardt.
