- Older chromecasts have been broken for days
- Google says that a fix now takes place to users
- But new problems now affect chromecast with Google TV
It was a week quite frustrating for the owners of a 2nd generation chromecast or chromecast audio, but a corrective for the bug that made these inoperable devices is now deployed – just like new problems appear for the new Chromecast with Google TV.
In an article on the official forums of the Nest community (via the rod), Google says: “We have started to deploy a correction for the problem with the audio devices Chromecast (2nd generation) and Chromecast, which will be completed in the coming days.”
You have nothing to do to get the fix: Google simply says that your device must be connected so that the update is applied. The problems started to appear on Monday, so at least some users can resume their streaming in time for the weekend.
However, if you have made a factory reset to your Chromecast to try to repair it – a perfectly sensible approach – you must sit down. Google says that these devices will not get the automatic update and that it will provide other instructions “as soon as possible”.
Chromecast with Google TV
With perfect timing, owners of the new Chromecast with Google TV, not affected by other problems – now report their own problems. These problems seem to be linked to an Android 14 update which was deployed yesterday.
According to 9TO5GOOGLE, there are many bug reports, including problems with external USB devices connected to the dongle, changes in the color profile, disappearance parameters and the unit not coming out.
Check one of the Reddit Threads on the update, and you will see that these problems do not affect everyone – and some are resolved with a restart. However, this is not a good look for Google, just as it solves the problems of its other Chromecast devices.
If you have a chromecast affected with Google TV, see if a restart or factory reset solves the problems you see. Google has not yet commented on the last share of problems, but we will let you know if there is an official response.
