Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is expected to resume flights to the United Kingdom after Eidul FITR, Pakistan High Commissioner said in the United Kingdom Dr. Muhammad Faisal.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner in London, assisted by journalists, social media influencers and distinguished guests, Dr. Faisal announced that PIA will initially restore London and Manchester flights in Pakistan. He also expressed his efforts to restart Birmingham services in the near future.
The High Commissioner stressed that the resumption of thefts will be marked by an official opening ceremony, with representatives of the media invited to cover the event.
He said that the reintegration of thefts is independent of any operational concern linked to the aircraft landings. This decision comes as Pakistan aims to strengthen its aviation ties with the United Kingdom, following a prolonged suspension of direct flights.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) restarted its European operations on January 10, 2025, with its first flight to Paris, following a prohibition of four and a half years imposed by the European Union.
The EU suspended PIA flight operations in June 2020 after a tragic plane crash in Karachi. The situation worsened when the minister of the time revealed to Parliament that several pilots had been hired with false licenses, raising serious security problems.
After in -depth regulatory improvements and safety compliance measures, the EU has raised the ban, allowing the PIA to resume its services to European destinations.
In addition, the government has provided the International Sale Monetary Fund for Pakistan International Airlines by July, but the future of the Roosevelt Hotel in New York has not yet been decided in the middle of the American decision to terminate the prematurely $ 228 million rental contract.
The Ministry of Privatization also informed the IMF on the status of the privatization of the PIA and gave a deadline of July 2025 to sell the entity to the loss, the sources said.
The government’s previous attempt to privatize the PIA seriously failed after its low control process ended up selecting a real estate developer as the only tenderer. The only bidder had given an offer of 10 billion rupees, which was several times lower than the minimum demand price of 85 billion rupees.
The sources have indicated that the IMF was informed that the government was evaluating the feeling of the market before issuing the expression of interest to invite investors by the end of this month.
