Jamal showed up for a day of training in Pakistan during the home test series against England in December of last year with “804” written on the underside of his disk. It is the prisoner number of Imran, which has been imprisoned since August 2023 and faces multiple long -term sentences for corruption and other accusations. Imran says the accusations are politically motivated. Le nombre est devenu un cri de ralliement populaire et identifiant parmi ses partisans, entendu lors des rassemblements de son parti politique PTI et même pendant quelques jeux de PSL l’année dernière.
As Jamal was in the training kit and not during a match day expressing a political message, it was not a violation of the ICC. But the code of conduct of the PCB reflects that of the ICC.
Jamal was sentenced to a fine under clause 2.23 of this code which declares:
Public criticisms or inappropriate comments concerning the board of directors, one of its officials or sponsors or politicians, the ICC or one of its officers or sponsors, player, support staff of players or officials of match referees and referees, regardless of the moment when these inappropriate criticisms or comments are made.
The clause notes that players cannot “comment on sensitive, community, racial, sectarian, political matters, etc.
It is believed that the fine is unusually large for the breach, indicating that it could give an example, rather than specifically punishing a disciplinary breach.
Imran was the Prime Minister until he was moved by a parliamentary vote without confidence in May 2022. He and his party disagreed with the current government of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Mohin Naqvi, the current PCB president, is a key figure in the current government as Minister of the Interior and by Constitution, is appointed to the Prime Minister’s PCB.
Jamal was one of the many players sentenced to a fine during the winter for various disciplinary and curfew.
