- Citroen Boss says that the future plan is to be “daring and shocking”
- Consequently, the 2CV is ready to return as a modern EV
- Watching back is the new look impatiently
According to Hot in the heels of the Renault 5 relaunched and its big brother Madcap R5 Turbo 3rd, Citroen is the last brand to declare that it will redo more in its history.
Speaking to Autocar, Citroen CEO Thierry Koskas said that the company would rely on “one of the richest stories in the world” among car manufacturers and that 2CV was one of the most recognized cars it had produced.
Stop to confirm an release date, Koskas says that in the future, Citroen needs more emblematic models that “surprise”.
Earlier this year, Autocar also revealed that design work had already started on the 2CV retro-futuristic. At the same time, the Citroen brand chief said that we can expect a new concept car later this year – but it will not necessarily be an overview of what we can expect from an electric tin snail, because the 2CV was affectionately known.
Old School is the new car design school
It is not a coincidence that several European car manufacturers plunge into history books for EV inspiration.
Currently, the threat of cheaper Chinese competition and more carried out on technology is to worry that buyers will be tempted to opt for the best value options because the cost of living continues to increase.
“But buyers still want a good design,” said Renault design chief Laurens Van de Acker, during the recent launch of Dacia Bigster. “Design and heritage or have a story to tell,” he added.
It is also not a coincidence that the same European manufacturers restart vehicles which were once considered as practical and affordable people with the power to transport whole nations through difficult times.
The Renault 5, for example, was born during the oil crisis in the 1970s, when people were crying for a cheap and effective wheels to use daily.
Similarly, the 2CV was designed to coax horses farmers, transport eggs on damaged land and generally act as the ultimate vehicle to do everything. No doubt the first SUV in the world.
Combustion engine cars being deleted in many countries, customers cry for equally affordable and practical options in the VE space.
