In a decision to strengthen the digital landscape of Pakistan, Starlink of Elon Musk received a temporary certificate without objection (NOC) to start its services in the country, Pakistan Associated Press reported.
Information Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed development on Friday, noting that Starlink had obtained a temporary registration, following the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In her declaration, the Minister stressed that approval came after in -depth consultations and consensus among all security and regulatory organizations.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will ensure that Starlink adheres to the country’s regulatory framework, including payments of expenses and license obligations.
“This marks an important step in the digital transformation course of Pakistan,” said Shaza. “Under the direction of Prime Minister Sharif, Pakistan makes substantial progress to improve its internet infrastructure,” she added.
The PM has asked complete reforms to improve connectivity at the national level, with the recording of Starlink considered as a critical step to achieve this vision.
Stressing the transformer potential of satellite Internet, the minister expressed that approval would provide an essential boost to connectivity, especially in poorly served and distant regions.
“Modern solutions such as satellite internet will not only improve connectivity, but will make the digital divide through Pakistan,” she said.
The successful facilitation by the Government of the Starlink registration came through a total approach to the government, with the collaboration of key institutions, in particular cybercrime agencies, PTA and space authority.
Shaza expressed its optimism on the fact that this development lays the basics of the official launch of satellite internet services, marking the dawn of a new era in the digital connectivity of Pakistan.
