PM rents the ministers, those responsible for the tax resumption

Islamabad:

Upon his return from Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Saturday.

He appreciated the ministers and officers on the recent cover of RS34.5 billion by FBR. He particularly congratulated the Minister of Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister of Information and Dissemination Attaullah Tarar, Advisor to Prime Minister Syed Tauqir Shah, Prosecutor General Mansoor Awan, Secretary End Langrial, Director General Fawad Asadullah Khan, CEO FIA Jan Muhammad and officers concerned by the measures taken for this historic recovery.

He said that he and the whole nation were grateful to them to have benefited from RS34.5 billion for the national treasury.

The recovery of the amount within 24 hours of the decision was commendable, he said that adding these best results shows that if there was hard work and dedication, success was achievable.

He said that it was a historical achievement that was only made possible because of a team that works hard.

The resumption of RS34.5 billion was a good start and it was only the start of the trip, he added.

“We have to form a sustainable system on a permanent basis,” he said, “we have to solve decades of problems by working together”.

While enjoying President FBR, he said that a complete legal structure should be formed for FBR recovery permanently.

He ordered that a plan be presented to guarantee the FBR reforms and the implementation of tax laws.

The Prime Minister said that a plan should also be prepared for improving the FBR workforce.

The system could be improved with 100%scanning, validation of third parties and continuous surveillance, he said.

He said comprehensive measures should be incurred against officers and staff involved in any type of diversion.

The encouragement of officers and staff who have performed well should be assured, he continued.

He said: “If we have to change the fate of Pakistan, we have to make changes in the system on a permanent basis.”

“We will make every effort to save every penny from the people,” he said.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed of pending cases in court concerning taxes and measures taken by the government team for the recovery of money through these cases.

President FBR informed the Prime Minister of Reforms of the Directorate of FBR law, a digital algorithm for tax evaluation, the performance of tax agents and global FBR reforms.
