Islamabad:
Renowned mountaineer Murad Sadpara, known for his climbing exploits and high-altitude rescue missions, posthumously received the Sitara-E-Imtiaz in recognition of his services.
The prestigious price was received by his widow during the inauguration ceremony held in Aiwan-E-Sadr. Last year, Sadpara tragically lost his life while going down Broad Peak, a giant mountain of 8,047 meters (26,400 feet) in the Karakoram chain. He was struck by a rock falling down the mountain, undergoing fatal injuries. He started the climb alongside a Portuguese climber, but their ascent was interrupted when his partner fell ill in the middle of difficult weather conditions. Although a rescue team was sent, he died before the help could reach it.
Sadpara’s heritage is marked by her extraordinary bravery. A few weeks before his death, he played a vital role in recovering the body of Muhammad Hassan Shigri with an altitude of 8,200 m on K2 – a revolutionary mission recognized as the first of its kind on the second highest peak in the world. The previous year, he participated in another historic recovery, dropping the remains of an Afghan climber from Camp 3 on K2.
His unwavering courage and his dedication earned him the admiration of the world mountaineering community. Special thanks were extended to All Mountaineers, FCNA and the Gilgit-Baltistan administration for their support during the award ceremony. Recognition was also extended to the boss of the Alpine Club in Pakistan, Major-General Irfan Arshad, for his help continues to Sadpara’s family during their difficult period after his death.
