A New York High School’s basketball coach, who was dismissed during the weekend for shooting one of his players after a loss in the state championship match, was cited this week for second degree harassment, according to officials.
Jim Zullo, 81, was dismissed from his job as head coach of the Northville high school Basketball team for girls on Sunday after being taken on video shooting a player’s hair, Hailey Monroe, after the Falcons lost the class of class D against the Fargeville Central School on Friday evening.

The school district of Northville Central published a statement announcing the decision and said that it was “deeply disturbed” of Zullo.

“We hold our coaches according to the highest standards of professionalism, sporting spirit and respect for our students athletes, and this behavior is completely unacceptable. The district is committed to guarantee that this type of behavior has no place in our programs, and we will continue to maintain the values of respect and integrity that our athletes, our families and our families await and deserve.
“This person will no longer be a coach of the central school district of Northville,” said the press release. “We assure the public that this affair is taken very seriously, and the district is actively addressed.
The incident occurred when the two teams aligned themselves for the post-match ceremony, which included hand handles between players and a prize ceremony at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

On Monday, the Hudson Valley Community College Department of Public Safety published a declaration confirming that Zullo met officers and received an appearance for second degree harassment.
It will be due to the court on a later date.
Zullo published a statement during the weekend by apologizing for his actions.

“I deeply regret my behavior after the defeat against the Fargeville Friday evening in the class D state championship match. obtained by WNYT.
“As a coach, it is in no way acceptable to put my hands on a player, and I am really sorry. I would like to be able to recover these moments. I am grateful for the opportunity to have trained basketball for girls in Northville in the past two years, especially last season, which was difficult for our family.
Zullo had previously won a state championship with the boys’ basketball team from Shenendehowa High School in 1987 and qualified for the state final at each of its two seasons with the Northville women’s team.
He took the job there in 2023 at the request of his wife, who was fighting cancer at the time. She died during this season.
