Islamabad:
The leaders of the opposition to the National Assembly and the Senate moved the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) against the delay in the appointment of the new commissioner in the elections (CEC) and two members of the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP).
Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz asked the court to ask the federal government to initiate the significant opposition consultation process for the appointments of the new CEC, and two members of the ECP.
The current Sultan Raja of the CEC Sikandar and the member of the ECP, Sindh and the member of the ECP, Balochistan, recently completed their mandates in office. The IHC petition said the court should prevent them from continuing to the office.
Ayub, the head of the opposition of the National Assembly, and Faraz, the head of the Senate opposition, declared that the Constitution was raped by delaying these appointments, as Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate had not succeeded in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.
The petition asked the court to ask the president to form a parliamentary committee, to ask the president to send the names of the members of the senators to the speaker and to order the Prime Minister to keep consultations with the head of the opposition under article 213 of the Constitution.
