PPP stages protest against the canals

Hyderabad:

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has planned to jog memories of its anti-Kalabagh dam protests as it increases demonstrations against the construction of six new channels on the Industry River. Party’s Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Tuesday during a rally on the bridge of Dulha Darya in the Thatta district that in the next phase of their protest, sit-in demonstrations will be held in all the Talukas in the province.

He informed that the president of the Bilawal Bhutto Zardari party will address public meetings from April 4, going to the headquarters of the division one after the other. He added that the sit-in on the national motorway is also planned.

“The protest movement will continue until the federal government is withdrawing from building Cholistan and other channels.” He recalled that the Kalabagh dam movement had also started from the Ththta district in the 1990s.

Referring to certain leaders of the Grand Democratic Alliance Alliance (GDA) by Pir Pagara Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, Khhhro said that many political figures who are opposing the channels publicly supported the Kalabagh dam in the past. “Liaquat Jatoi [a Dadu district based politician] Even organized rallies for the former Dictator Pervez Musharraf in support of the dam. “”

He also recalled that Jatoi, when he was the chief minister, influenced the president of the Sindh Assembly, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, to postpone a planned session of the Assembly in which a resolution was to be moved to the dam. “Those who used to sit on Musharraf’s knees and support the Kalabagh dam today criticizes PPP leadership to secretly support the canals.”
