- Google Messages received another funny upgrade
- Emoji symbols can now trigger screen effects
- The animations were introduced for the first time in 2023
Google Messages recently obtained a good number of upgrades, and a new one has just happened: full screen screen effects for RCS cats can now be triggered by certain emojis as well as specific sentences inside the application.
These are the animations that appear each time you type a specific sentence – as “congratulations” or “Happy New Year” – and as spotted by Android Authority, you can now activate them with messages containing two corresponding emojis.
The functionality was initially announced in 2023, but Google has never given a complete list of triggers – the idea is to try to discover them by chance. Reddit detectives have identified nearly 20 that work.
So, you could say “Rise and Shine” to one of your contacts and see an animation of the raised sun appear in the background. These work separately from the reactions of emoji, which are smaller effects that appear when you press a message for a long time and choose an emoji.
Trigger emoji
Google messages now allows Emoji triggers the screen effects of animations for animations, the screen effects have been activated using specific text trigger sentences. Defined emoji that I found – 👍, 😍, 👎, 👎, 😘, 🥰, 😳, 💕✅ Details – Pic.twitter.com/kr8mjcoy6pMarch 25, 2025
Some of the triggers of emoji discovered by Android Authority include a boost, a pair of love hearts and a sleeping face: simply try to type twice in the relevant emoji and send it as a message to see the full screen animation.
This adds a little more pleasure to the Google Messages experience – even if you don’t expect it. Google has pushed new features to the application to make it more competitive with other Meta and Apple cat offers.
For example, the application recently added an improved method to share photos and videos to their original quality, which is an important part of any messaging platform. A number of new security features have also been introduced recently.
Much more features seem to be in the pipeline but have not yet been announced. We have seen signs that remote deletion for messages is underway, as well as a new information panel that gives you more information on the messages sent.
