Islamabad:
Wednesday, the Senate subcommittee on human rights checked the 2025 bill of the National Minorities Commission.
The subcommittee meeting was held under the president of Senator Ali Zafar. During a briefing on the bill, the human rights secretary said that the President of the Commission would be appointed minority communities while the Prime Minister will have the power to appoint the head of the Commission.
The National Commission for Minorities will be made up of 19 members with training in human rights services. The Commission will include three members of the Hindu and Christian communities, and one of the Sikh, Parsi and Kalash communities. Two members of the commission will be Muslims. One member each will be taken from the Islamic Ideology Council and the Evacuee Trust Property Board. A member each will be appointed from all the provinces and the federation. The maximum age for the members of the Commission will be 40 years.
The Commission is being created to protect the rights of minorities and will be responsible for the formulation of a national action plan. He will be invested with the powers of a civil court. He could request reports from the government or any other department, according to the human rights secretary.
The Minister of State for Religious Affairs, Khael Das Kohistani, supported the bill, saying that it is good to approve the bill as soon as possible.
