- OPENAI limits the free level of Chatppt to 3 images per day
- Sam Altman says “our GPUs melt”
- The limitation must be temporary
In the middle of the growing controversy on its AI imitating the artistic style of the Ghibli studio, Openai is forced to limit the number of images that cat cat can produce on the free level at 3 per day because it turns out to be too popular.
In a recent tweet on X, Sam Altman, CEO of Openai, said: “It’s super fun to see that people like images in Chatgpt, but our GPUs melt. We will temporarily introduce rate limits while we work to make it more effective. Hopefully will not be long! The free level of the chatpt will obtain 3 generations per day soon. ”

The new capacities for generation of chatgpt images are clearly a step in the development of the AI image generation, proving superior in our Dall-E 3 tests, which is the model previously used by Chatgpt, and also what it will always be by default once you have lacked generations in the new model.
In his X-Thread, Sam Altman also continues to say that “(too, we refuse certain generations which should be authorized; we install them as quickly as we can.)”
This could explain the frustrations that I experienced to get the Chatppt to produce text in pictures.
Deployment delay of chatgpt
It is quite possible that you do not yet have access to the Chatgpt images creation tools. Anyway. Although Chatgpt Plus and Pro users all seem to have access, all free level users do not do so.
On March 26, Altman tweeted that the deployment of the free level was going to be delayed: “Chatgpt images are much more popular than expected (and we had fairly high expectations). The deployment of our free level is, unfortunately, which will be delayed for a while. ”
As we said in our tests, even on the positive level, Chatgpt is already very slow with regard to the generation of images, and when the deployment of the free level is complete, we would expect that it is even slower. The decision to limit the free level to 3 images on a temporary, although understandable basis, will inevitably lead to the frustration of people by the company.
