The World Bank approved a loan of $ 300 million to support the Clean Air (PCAP) program of Punjab. This initiative aims to reduce pollution and improve public health.

Funding will help fight against the growing air pollution crisis, especially in Lahore. The program aligns with the SMOG attenuation action plan of the provincial government (SMAP).

Punjab faces serious air pollution, Lahore regularly ranking among the most polluted cities. Vehicle emissions, industrial pollution and combustion of culture residues are the main causes of SMOG. These pollutants have led to an increase in health problems, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The PCAP aims to reduce PM2.5% levels of 35% over the next decade, benefiting millions of residents.

The program includes the modernization of agriculture, the launch of electric buses and improving air quality monitoring. It will introduce 5,000 super sowing to brake the combustion of crops, install 600 electric buses and add air quality stations. The quality of the fuel will also be improved with the new test laboratories. Public awareness campaigns will educate citizens on pollution health risks, focusing on vulnerable groups such as schoolchildren and patients.

Beyond cleaner air, the program will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs in the electric vehicle sector. He will also support farmers and help them move to modern and environmental practices. With this initiative, Pakistan makes a crucial step towards a healthier and more sustainable future.
