Quetta:
Immeated by a suicide attack one day ago, the Balutchistan National Party (BNP-M) continued its sit-in on Sunday at Lak Pass between the districts of Quetta and Mastung-a demonstration that blocked a key motorway connecting the provincial capital of Balutchistan with the Sindh, Punjab and other parts of the country
Meanwhile, the first series of negotiations between a government team and the management of the BNP managed by Sardar Akhtar Mengal ended without any breakthrough.
On Saturday, some provincial ministers met Mengal and tried to convince him to finish the demonstration and reopen the highway. However, Mengal insisted that the demonstration would continue until the release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Samdin Baloch and disappeared people.
A delegation of the Jeu-F managed by its provincial leader Maulana Abdul Wasay also visited the BNP protest camp and expressed its full support for BNP-M. Jeu-f mpa Mir Zafarullah Zehri and Senator Kamran Murtaza were also part of the delegation.
Strict security measures were in place to prevent any annoying incident during the demonstration.
On Saturday, an alleged suicide attack took place near the sit-in site at the Lak Pass.
BNP-M Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other senior party leaders were present in the protest camp when the alleged striker exploded his suicide vest. Fortunately, everyone remained unscathed.
After the incident, security has been reinforced in and around the longtime BNP-M.
The authorities have implemented strict measures to ensure security in the region, aimed at preventing other threats, officials said. The chief minister Sarfaraz Bugti firmly condemned what he described as “alleged suicide bombing”.
In an article on the social media platform X, he assured that the government would investigate the incident. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure the security of BNP-M leaders and participants.
The Mengal party had launched a long Wadh step in Quetta against the arrest of the leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti committee (BYC), including Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sami Deen Muhammad.
According to sources, the Balutchistan government was in contact with the management of BNP-M since the previous night and a BNP-M delegation had already met the local administration.
