The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) voted on Tuesday to adopt a new eligibility policy between the sexes which prohibits the Trans athletes of Girls Sports. Now, only biological women can participate in the category of girls in the state.
Lieutenant-Governor of Nevada, Governor Stavros Anthony, praised the decision in a statement.
“I congratulate the Niaa for having made this important and courageous step,” said Lieutenant-Governor Stavros Anthony. “Today’s vote sends a clear message: Nevada varies and protects opportunities for female athletes. Girls deserve the rules of the game, and this action makes it possible to ensure that they can compete, grow and succeed without having to compromise security or equity.”
The change marks a reversal of the previous policy of the State which allowed the athletes Trans to compete in the sports of girls and women, which has led to multiple controversial incidents of this in recent years.

The State constitution was revised in 2022, when democratic legislators voted to adopt the equal rights amendment, which added gender identity to its list of diversity classifications which are protected by state law.
The law provoked a quarrel published nationally between the University of Nevada, Reno and its players in women’s volleyball in October.
The players approached university administrators in private to express their desire to give up a match against the State University of San Jose, which referred to a Trans athlete. But the university has not honored this request and instead published a declaration Insist the fact that it would play the match. Nevada also insisted that its players would be allowed to jump the competition without dealing with the discipline.

The team finally lost the day before the match to be played, due to not having enough players. However, the University said it had discussions with the potential “legal problems” that would emerge if the match was not played.
“The university administrators met the Nevada volleyball team and discussed the scenarios of what could happen if they chose not to play. One of the scenarios that was discussed revolved around any legal problems to violate the constitution of Nevada,” read a statement that was provided exclusively to PK Press Club Digital by the University of Nevada, Reno.
The dispute between players has turned into national controversy that even attracted political attention in the weeks preceding the November elections.
Meanwhile, at the level of youth, a Nevada college student, Ava Chavez, 13, told an experience to have to face trans athletes in a letter she gave to state legislators last week.

“When the ball is on the other side of the net, they have a chance to swing, and we have a chance to block. It can be dangerous for us because if the blockers cannot block the boy’s blow, I could be dangerously injured. It scares me because the boys are naturally larger, faster, stronger and have a higher vertical”, a copy of the letter obtained by PK Press Club Digital.
Another girl, Kendall Lewis, 17, also had a matter of a trans volleyball player due to state policies, she previously told PK Press Club Digital in an interview.
Now the Nevada joins 26 other states in the United States which prohibit trans athletes from participating in girls sports and are the last to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive decree to solve the problem.
