A biopic by Michael Jackson entitled Michael was in preparation, relying on his nephew Jaafar Jackson to play the emblematic pop icon.
However, the reports now suggest that the film distributors, Lionsgate and Universal Pictures, plan to push the release date, which is currently on October 3.
Sources told Deadline The reason behind this is the possible decision to divide the film into two parts.
This is not the first time that the film has faced a radical change. Earlier, work on the film’s script was redone for the reshuffles after the end of the main photographer last May.
In addition to the nephew of the late MJ in mind, Colman Domingo will also play in the biopic as a family patriarch Joe Jackson.
“I am delighted to be part of a film that explores both the complicated soul of the legendary Michael Jackson as well as his impact on music and culture as a global access,” said the actor previously.
“Not only am I lucky to have a rich, complex and defective character to represent in Joe Jackson, but I also have a seat in the front row for the incredible transformation of Jaafar,” he continued.
“After seeing him in rehearsal, my mind was blown away. There is something divine in the way Jaafar channels his late uncle. His talent and embodiment of Michael’s essence are simply at another level,” concluded Colman.
