- Windows 11 24H2 wins a new machine recovery tool (QMR)
- It will help Microsoft repair remote start accidents via Windows updates
- It is available in the beta channel for all Windows initiates
Microsoft is testing a quick recovery tool (QMR) to repair remote starting accidents, and it is now available for Windows initiates in the beta channel for 24H2 which are also ready to try the tool.
Being part of the Windows Resiliency initiative, QMR aims to reduce the quantity of stop time resulting from system failures and comes into play when Windows 11 cannot start due to pilots or defective configurations.
Senior program manager Riddhi Ameser described the functionality, introduced by CEO Satya Nadella to Microsoft Ignite 2024, as a “game change for Windows 11 devices confronted with starting problems”.
Windows 11 obtains a new quick recovery function (QMR)
System failures can sometimes lead to devices stuck in the Windows recovery environment (RE), Ameser explained, which can have an impact on productivity. QMR allows automated fixes “bringing users to a productive state without requiring complex manual intervention”, explains Ameser in a blog article.
Home Windows 11 devices will ultimately have this default feature, but Windows 11 Pro and local Enterprise and IT administrators will be able to control if they want the functionality to work within their organizations.
“If a Windows 11 device, the 24H2 version meets a critical failure preventing normal start, it enters Windows Re,” explains Ameser. From there, the device reconnects to the network using Ethernet or Wi-Fi Protected access (WPA) for Microsoft to analyze crash data and identify the deep cause of the problem. Microsoft then provides a fix via Windows update.
The initial version allows administrators to activate or deactivate QMR, configure the scanning interval and test to provide preparation before complete deployment.
The company asks the first adopters to submit comments for the tool under Recovery and uninstallation> Rapid recovery of the machine To help improve QMR, but there is no word yet on general availability.
