Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry and other Hollywood stars expressed charm to Las Vegas on Wednesday to present at Amazon.com (amzn.o), opens a new extended tab in the cinema.
Gosling appeared at the Cinemacon Convention of theater owners after the beginnings of a trailer for his next science fiction epic Project Hail Mary, Based on a popular novel by Andy Weir.
In the film, Gosling depicts a teacher who has become astronauts who embarks on a long mission to save the planet and meets a stranger named Rocky.
“This is why we are going to the movies,” said Gosling.
“I’m not only saying that because I’m in it, but also because I am a producer on the film,” he said to laugh. “And it’s also true.”
Hail Mary project should be released next March while Amazon accelerates the pace of movie releases.
The online retailer, which also operates the first video streaming service, has published a handful of films in cinemas each year in the last decade. The company now promises to increase this to at least 15 per year by 2027. It has already planned 14 versions for 2026.
Amazon bought the MGM Studio and its large film library in 2022. The presentation of Wednesday was the first in Cinemacon of Amazon.
“We are committed to doing so in the long term,” said Mike Hopkins, Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “When Amazon is committed to something, we tend to do it big.”
The theater owners welcomed Amazon to their annual gathering, hoping that the company will fill a vacuum on the left when Walt Disney (Dis.N) opened a new TAB subsumed the Fox Movie Studio in 2019. Box-office yields in the United States and Canada remain below pre-pale levels.
During the Amazon field, Chris Pratt joked with the audience of a chair used as an accessory in the film MercyThe story of a suspect of murder trying to prove his innocence. Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri praised “After the Hunt”, a thriller on a scandal on a university campus. Hemsworth and Halle Berry teased their turning film Crime 101.
Affleck went on stage to promote The accountant 2, Correction director Gavin O’Connor when he said that the original film had made his debut nine years ago.
“It’s been eight years, five months, two weeks, five days and 10 hours,” said Affleck, reflecting the accuracy of his character.
O’Connor praised Amazon for his commitment to send films first to theaters rather than directly streaming.
“The streamers are now the guards,” said O’Connor in an interview with Reuters. “If they don’t put movies in theaters, this kind of thing can disappear – no joke.”
“They have to continue the flame,” he added.
Amazon recently took creative control of the James Bond franchise. The company has not provided any clue to which it will throw to play the famous British spy.
