After the announcement by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Sharif of a reduction in electricity prices, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notification confirming the drop in prices in the context of quarterly adjustment, while consumers had to receive a relief that could reach RS3.02 per unit.
The notification issued by the NEPRA for quarterly adjustment specifies that price reduction will apply to the period from October to December 2024, Express News reported.
Price reduction will take effect for all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, for three months, from April to June 2025, offering emergency services amounting to around 56.38 billion rupees to consumers.
However, price reduction will not apply to Lifeline and prepaid customers. The NEPRA said that distribution companies had requested quarterly adaptation to the drop in electricity prices, which leads to an audience and the subsequent reduction in monthly fuel prices across the country.
For Karachi consumers, electricity will be RS3.02 per unit cheaper, while the rest of the country will see a reduction in RS1.90 per unit.
In separate notifications for monthly adjustments, NEPRA has said that price relief would begin to think about consumers’ April invoices.
For KSA electric customers, the price drop is based on the monthly adjustment of January 2025, while for other parts of the country, price reduction is linked to the adjustment of February 2025.
