The United Nations:
In the midst of a record murder of humanitarian staff in conflict areas around the world, Pakistan called on the United Nations Security Council to put pressure on sanctions and legal action against offenders.
“Impunity must end,” the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, permanent representative of Pakistan at the UN, told the UN, on the council of 15 members during a debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts.
“Impunity is not just a failure of justice-it is a rehearsal license,” he said, adding: “Opportunal, independent and impartial surveys must hold responsible authors. “”
In this regard, the Pakistani envoy has urged the creation of a “dashboard of global implementation” for this resolution – it should provide real -time public monitoring of violations, surveys and their results “so that everyone can see and follow”.
The growing attacks on humanitarian staff are not only isolated incidents – “they reflect an increasing contempt for international standards,” said Ambassador Asim, adding that he is unacceptable that those who work to provide “dignity in the midst of the trip” are encountered “not with gratitude, but with shots”.
According to the assistance worker safety database, 379 humanitarian staff were killed in 2024.
