- The Texas State Bar warns members of a data violation
- It offers free monitoring of flight and identity theft
- Inc Ransomware claimed the responsibility of the attack
The Texas State Bar, the official regulatory authority for American lawyers, confirmed that it has suffered a data violation that led to the theft of sensitive members.
“On February 12, 2025, the Texas State bar identified a suspicious activity on its network and quickly moved to secure its environment”, a letter of data violation sent to people affected by readings. Thanks to the survey, we determined that there was unauthorized access to our network between January 28, 2025 and February 9, 2025. “
Texas State Bar is responsible for licenses, the application of ethics and professional development. Its members are mainly approved lawyers, and it also provides legal resources for the public and supports the legal profession by education and advocacy.
Incorrect ransomware
Although the organization has not detailed the type of stolen information or the identity of the attackers, the ransomware operators called the INC ransomware claimed the responsibility of the violation. In fact, the group has already disclosed data samples on the Dark web, which include names of complete members and certain legal cases.
Although the authenticity of the data remains to be determined, the Texas status bar has already offered a free credit and identity flight monitoring service via Experian, until July 31, 2025.
Potentially affected people are also recommended to activate a credit freezing or place a fraud alert on their credit files to ensure that the attack does not degenerate more.
If the organization is added to a leakage site and samples are available for download, it is sure to assume that the negotiations between the attackers and the victim are underway.
If the archives are deleted, the organization has probably paid for ransom request. If all of the data is put up for sale (or spilled), negotiations have probably dropped.
The organizations responsible for the application of laws advise paying the ransom request.
