- A new rumor suggests that the next iPad Mini could get an OLED screen
- This would make it the second iPad to get the upgrade, after the iPad Pro
- The rumor is light on the details, and Apple has not recognized it
When the iPad Pro M4 was released in 2024, Apple made waves by equipping its first high -end tablet with a superb OLED screen – the first on any iPad model.
Since then, we are wondering what iPad will be the next to jump for older LCD technology with increased contrast and the precision of the colors of the OLED – and a new rumor suggests that an unlikely candidate could be the next.
The digital chat station as noted IT (via GSMARENA) has published an article on Weibo suggesting that “the iPad assesses the small OLED” in the context of traditional technological companies producing tablets of 8.8 inch.
Admittedly, it is not much to do, but the digital cat station has a fairly decent record and is considered one of the most reliable cans publishing on Chinese platforms.
The Ipad Mini of current generation, published at the end of 2024, has an 8.3 -inch screen. The message is not clear enough to know if the digital cat station implies an increase in the screen size for the iPad Mini, as well as the new OLED technology.
Our iPad Mini (2025) examination found the tablet very impressive overall, but an OLED screen upgrade would always be more than welcome.
The iPad Mini is the second most expensive iPad model per starting price. At $ 499 / £ 499/799 $ in, it is only beaten by the basic iPad of the basic model, which consists of $ 329 / £ 329 / $ 599 in.
This would leave the iPad Air models equipped with the LCD screen sandwiched between the iPad Mini and the iPad Pro on the Apple price scale – but that may seem a strange choice, I think this strategy could actually be realistic.
Analysis: why an iPad Mini Oled could have a meaning
Although the iPad Mini is between the iPad and the iPad Air on the Apple tablet pricing scale, it is not really correct to consider it as an intermediate option between the two.
It is more realistic to think of the iPad, the iPad Air and the iPad Pro forming a range of adjoining products intended for traditional consumers, the iPad Mini offering an experience similar to a niche market of small tablet fans.
The trend on all mobile devices in the past decade has been larger screens. The iPhone increased from 4.7 to 6.9 inches and the iPad from 9.7 to a maximum of 13 inches of screen size.
The iPad Mini is unique in that it has only increased slightly at the same time, from 7.9 to 8.3 inches, most of which can be attributed to the adoption of the modernized full -screen iPad language language.
This is to say that people who buy an iPad Mini probably buy it because it has a small screen, not because they seek to save money compared to an iPad Air or iPad Pro.
As such, it is logical that Apple begins to extend some of these high -end features at the iPad Mini, because its target audience would probably never experience them otherwise.
And with the iPad Mini taking advantage of popularity in certain professional and high -end leisure areas – it is a favorite known to pilots – there is certainly a range for certain improvements in functionalities.
In addition to an OLED screen, I would personally like to see the iPad Mini get a chipset from the M. series it may seem exaggerated for such a small device, but if we consider that the M1 chipset is five years this year, it is not such a big request.
For the moment, however, I think that adding an OLED screen would be sufficient – a sign of Apple according to which their small tablet is always a priority, despite only 10% of iPad sales (as Macrumors reports).
The only real collage point could be the price. Reddit navigation suggests that there are many occasional users who love the iPad Mini for emails, reading, web browsing – standard daily things. I would not want to see these salted users with major price increases as a result of the iPad Mini get closer to the pro.
Of course, the above is almost entirely based on rumors at this stage, so we have a waiting situation in our hands. For now, be sure to follow our iPad cover and let us know what you want to see at the iPad Mini in the comments below.
