The temple of renowned baseball, Fergie Jenkins, joined the current discussion this week on the use of Torpille bats which stormed the big leagues after the strong release of the New York Yankees during the opening weekend.
During an appearance in “The Ricky Cobb Show” by Outkick, Jenkins, 82, explained how torpedo bats have become the latest innovation in sport and could promote strikers.
“Well, when you watch the game when I played in the 60s, 70s, 80s, the launcher was almost dominant, and now we are like second-class citizens. Everything has been made for the striker. As, you say that the bases are larger, you have an over-glove that gives you an additional glove.

In addition to the rule changes that promote strikers, Jenkins said that Torpille bats are just the last thing in baseball that will help them.
“There is more than one striking surface for the shot, and I think it could increase the average of the strikers a little, but you will get a better piece of wood on the ball and the ball may travel a little further,” he said.
“Who knows? A few additional basic successes, and now a striker sees one of his teammates using it. Now he wants to use it. I can believe before the stars break, each ball club will have half a dozen strikers using this batpe.”

Although the overall striking surface is not increased with the Torpille bat, the baton of the bat is moved to a different place. The purpose of moving the barrel is to move the thickest part of the bat towards the place where the player establishes the most contact.
Jenkins said players who use the torpedo bat could see an increase in their number.
“I think the average of the stick, you might see perhaps 20 additional points on the average of each player’s shot. Instead they hit .255, .260, it could be. 280,” said Jenkins.

While the bat was storming baseball this season, New York Yankees has appointed the striker Giancarlo Stanton used a torpedo, including in playoffs when he crushed seven circuits in 14 games.
Jenkins, who launched from 1965 to 1983, had to manage any of the new rules of his life. He launched for the Chicago Cubs, the Texas Rangers, the Red Sox of Boston and Philadelphia Phillies during his 19 -year career.
Jenkins won the 1971 NL Cy Young with the Cubs and was appointed three stars three times.
