As Apple Watch veteran at 10 years old, I really took note of Garmin in the past six months in my role as one of the fitness and Techradar clothing experts.
Since the beginning of the year, there has been a lot of negativity around Garmin for various reasons: a world failure that has seen devices made unusable for more than a day, users have turned upside down by the older premium models left in the cold of the software and, more recently, the controversial subscription service Garmin Connect +.
I saw a lot of despair in the Garmin forums like the R / Garmin Sandret, the reading of countless publications and comments on users who plan to drop their boys or go to Apple, Samsung and Co.
But as a holder of Apple Watch, I am here to give a comforting hand to the faithful of Garmin. Life may not be perfect at the moment, but there are still a myriad of reasons to be grateful for your garmin and a ton of impressive features and advantages.
It made me think about how many advantages and advantages there is to use a garmin, so I thought of gathering some here to bring the users of Garmin a very necessary joy.
Who knows, if you are on the market for a new smartwatch, it may be the push you need to grasp one of the best boys instead of an Apple Watch Ultra 2. Of course, the features and the advantages are swinging in both directions, but allow me to have some of the things that Garmin is doing better than the Apple Watch right now.
1. See the age of the battery
The best Apple Watch will allow you at most 72 hours of battery life on a single load in low power mode. When you come to Garmin, the battery life specifications are measured in days rather than hours. Of course, there are reasons for this, Apple watches tend to have more shiny screens and generally a little more under the hood, but it is undeniable that even formidable and powerful models like the Garmin Fenix 8 offer crazy longevity. The latter is evaluated up to 34 days of typical use, an amazing figure.
Pound for pounds, any equivalent garmin will break the life of the Apple Watch battery in order of magnitude, and it is even before we consider the secret weapon and point number 2 of Garmin …
2. Solar load
Completing the battery life is solar loading, an option offered on many Garmin models. In exchange for a less impressive screen, you get a solar load for a potentially unlimited battery life under the right conditions. Although it is rarely a reality, the solar load pushes the battery life of 34 days aforementioned at the Fenix 8 up to 58 days on solar energy.
Apple never alluded to the solar charge on the Apple Watch during its 10 years of existence, and I would like to see the company try it.
3. Execution of measures
If you want the best racing watch to help you perfect your stride, set up your pace and beat your marathon record, Garmin is really the only option.
Garmin has a dedicated range of watches in progress, directed by the impressive precursor 965, but the whole range has a multitude of cutting -edge racing measures to which Apple cannot hold a candle.
In their most advanced metrics and features, the race dynamics and the vertical relationship, the contact time and the ground balance, the length of the stride, the rate, the racing power, the adjusted rhythm, the performance state, the lactate threshold, the pacement and even a prediction of racing time.
Apple Watch in fact some, but it is undeniable that Garmin leads the pack with regard to the race.
4. Garmin training plans and coach
Although your Apple Watch can follow a training, Garmin has a wide range of training tools. In particular, you can use Garmin Coach training plans to supply your racing or bicycle diet, and you can also use the Garmin Connect application to create step by step training sessions that you can follow directly from your wrist.
You will even obtain daily training on your previous performance (for the race or cycling) and information on the duration of your restoration according to your efforts.
Apple could have new Watchos 11 training load features, but if not, the company has barely scratched the surface in this area.
5. Precision and body battery
Garmin also offers very impressive preparation scores and its own body battery technology, which you will not find on any Apple watch. Now there is a debate on the effectiveness of this type of technology, and some people would probably tell you that it is pseudoscience.
However, Garmin takes measures such as your heart rate variability, activity data and more to generate a score in 100 to estimate your energy reserves and your overall preparation to tackle the day’s training.
For some people (myself included), it is not always useful – you can often become a slave to the numbers and end up feeling in a worse state that you really are – but for those who want it, the scores of the battery and the preparation of the Garmin’s body are much better than everything Apple offers in space.
6. Models and prices
According to all accounts, Garmin has the richest range of models of any manufacturer of Smartwatch, included Apple. While Cupertino opted for a simple range with three devices, Garmin has models in models above the layers of configurations wrapped around pricing structures.
It’s a plot To make your head, especially if you are a beginner – what is the difference between the Garmin Instinct 3 Amoled, Solar and Instinct E, for example? – But the result is that there is a garmin to everyone. From the dearest 55 precursor to Tactix 8 filled with ballistic follow -up and night vision mode, there is a garmin in all colors and at each price.
7. Agnosticism of the platform
One of the best things about the purchase of a garmin is that it works with iPhone and Android as well. Of course, you miss certain key notification features that you will get an Apple watch on iPhone, but generally, the purchase of a Garmin frees you to move more easily between the iPhone and Android if you feel so inclined.
This can be extremely liberating when it comes to choosing your next smartphone, especially because moving between the two means losing all your training data and your training distinctions.
8. A real flashlight
Bonus Round – Apple Watch has a flashlight functionality, but that involves mounting the screen to maximize the white brightness. Many boys, such as instinct 3, are delivered with a full -fledged flashlight for exploration or grop your way to the bathroom at 3 am.
Garmin users take care
As I said, this is by no means an exhaustive list, but I hope that Garmin users can take a certain heart that there are still many reasons to be satisfied with their purchases and to stick to the brand.
