This is the first UCONN title since 2015, ending their longest drought since he won his first title in 1995.

Bueckers was out of the match with 1:32 to go to the match, and she could not hold her emotions when she shared a long hug with head coach Geno Auriemma.

Auriemma was questioned by ESPN after the match what he said to his star player, and he kept simple things while held tears himself.

“I love you,” he said. “That’s all you can say.”

Bueckers was later invited to what she had said to her coach.

“I told him I hate him,” she joked.

It was a roller coaster for Bueckers, whose career 19.9 points per game is most in the history of Uconn, which has elite alumni. But she tore her ACL in 2022, forcing her to miss all season.

Bueckers was part of the only team in the history of Uconn to lose a match for the national title before undergoing the injury, and they did not get out of the Final Four last year.

But Sunday, she dropped 17 points on the way to finally win everything.

Bueckers also holds the Uconn record for the most points scored in March Madness throughout a career, a brand that ranks third in all time.
