The Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin received a congratulations message from Russian President Vladimir Putin after crossing the Wayne Gretzky brand for most goals scored every time.
Ovechkin was born in Moscow and played for Dynamo Moscow from 2001 to 2005 before joining the NHL and was selected in the draft by the capital.

“I congratulate you on your exceptional record. You have exceeded legendary masters in the number of goals scored in the matches of the regular season of the National League,” Putin said in a kremlin statement.
He said that Gretzky’s record “has not only become your personal success, but also a real celebration for fans in Russia and abroad.”
“I wish you health, good fortune (and) the spirit of combat to conquer new heights in life and in sport.”

Ovechkin scored the goal n ° 895 in the second period against the New York Icelanders. He converted the goal on a power game.
