- Android 16 is preparing a new Cloud compilation feature
- It unloads certain application installation tasks on the cloud
- Slower phones could see the biggest speed improvements
It seems that there are never enough hours during the day, but you may be able to claim a few minutes of your time when Android 16 takes place later this year – if a newly discovered feature in fact the final version of the mobile operating system.
The Android Authority team has dug the latest code updates for Android 16, which is currently in beta version, and there are signs of a feature called cloud compilation which could potentially speed up application facilities.
The Cloud compilation is a bit technical, but it essentially discharges part of the installation of the Work application on the cloud – as its name suggests. On the fastest flagship phones, there is practically no speed advantage, but there may be on older phones or budget combinations.
If you want the finest details, the Cloud compilation bypasses a local tool called Dex2oat, which manages application code parts called application artefacts. On phones with storage or slower processors, this can take some time, especially for the biggest applications and games.
Here is what is coming
As Android Authority noted, the functionality is not yet used, although it should soon be for beta testers. It also seems likely that it will be included in the final version of Android 16, although it can be an opt-in function for users.
We know that Google wants to get Android 16 earlier in the year that Android 15, so that it is ready to leave when Pixel 10 phones appear. According to rumors, Android 16 will make its official debut on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
And thanks to the months of beta tests that Android 16 has already crossed, we know some of the changes that are underway – including improvements in notification alerts, upgrades of health data and the security of integrated devices.
We should also see better confidentiality controls and a new audio sharing feature (supplied by Bluetooth Auracast). We also like the sound of adjustments that are apparently on the way to help you unlock your phone faster.
