Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged Iran to quickly apprehend those who have the murder of eight Pakistani nationals near the Pak-Iran border in Sistan.
Men, automotive mechanics by profession, were killed during a workshop in the Méhrestan district near the Afghan border, Iranian media reported. Six victims were from Khanqa Sharif, Bahawalpur, while two were from Ahmedpur Sharqia.
Says the incident as an “deed of odious terrorism”, Prime Minister Shehbaz demanded that the Iranian authorities reveal the motivations behind the attack and punish the authors.
“Terrorism remains a serious threat to the whole region,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz in a statement, urging neighboring countries to formulate a joint strategy against extremism.
The Prime Minister ordered the Pakistan Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contact the families of the victims and provide immediate support. He also asked the Tehran Embassy to quickly organize the repatriation of bodies.
The members of the family of victims called on the government to get help to bring the remains home.
The attack comes in the midst of efforts to repair bilateral relations between the two countries following a brief period of cross -border tensions earlier this year.
In a similar attack last year, nine Pakistanis were killed during a shooting incident near the border, one day after the two countries resumed diplomatic links as a result of a brief tension.
