Rory McILroy admitted to his post-Final interview with journalists who dropped on his knees after looking at his sink in eliminatory to win the 89th Masters tournament was a pure relief.
“It was a relief, there was not much joy in this reaction,” he said when a journalist asked what emotions he felt when he defeated Justin Rose in the first playoffs since 2017. “It was a relief. Then joy came soon after.
McILroy waited at 11 years not only to break his major drought, but, more importantly, engraving his name alongside the five large golf courses who collected the great career chelem with each major victory of their CV.

McILroy heard him from Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, who have all have a great home, for years. They thought he would one day win at the Augusta National Golf Club, and after getting closer to the past, McILroy admitted that McILroy felt slightly skeptical about what the green jacket was adjusted for itself.

“The United States Open last year was simply horrible,” said McILroy when he was asked for the low point of his major drought, while adding the defeat of the championship opened in 2022 against Cam Smith to St. Andrews.

It was 11 years old, filled with trials and tribulations. Although McILroy pointed out by always playing a fantastic golf course along the way, he knew he would always have something to prove if he did not capture this green jacket.
